Stevenson North Hall Residence Hall Staff Information and Review

We have had a GREAT year in Stevenson North Hall up to this point and anticipate the rest of the year to go just as well if not better!

This year we have had no reported incidents of bias or harassment reported.  The community “feels” positive.  Stevenson North has had significantly less conduct incidents compared to last year and years previous.   Last year, because of new laws in Michigan, we had a sharp increase in the use of marijuana incidents, those same laws were repealed and incidents of marijuana use have declined significantly.

  • About 91% of the respondents agreed their floor residents are respectful of people of different races/ethnicities.
  • About 88% of the respondents agreed their floor residents are respectful of people of different sexual identities.

The staff this year in Stevenson North Hall has been OUTSTANDING!!  The Resident Assistants, Aides and Senior Staff are a cohesive group.  This was not the case last year.  It is a true blessing to have staff that genuinely like each other and yet still have boundaries.   The FCS also indicated that residents, in large part, like and appreciate the Stevenson North staff as well.

Stevenson North feels like a very safe place!  Last year we had a “high profile” sexual assault incident that was reported at the start of the year.   That incident, along with the number of marijuana and conduct cases we had last year is in stark contrast to what we are experiencing this year.  The Night Security Program is doing AWESOME and the Stevenson North staff has done an amazing job to make residents feel ‘comfortable’ and safe.

In the area of Student Development, objectively this is one area I believe we could improve in.  According to the FCS, it seems  “systemically” to be true as well.   We did programming on the “One Book, One Community”, Alcohol Awareness, Diversity Issues, Financial Management, etc. as examples of “initiatives”.  The opening of the Neighborhood Engagement Center also occurred in October.
